Have you ever wondered what is the longest period that a fully planted tank can go on without fertilizer and still maintaining the plant in healthy condition?

Planted tank can go on without fertilizer?

Well, this tank of mine has been planted for 4 months without any fertilizer and i would say the plants are not complaining. They are all low demanding plants for sure but i guess if you give them an optimum environment (nutritious soil, good lighting, rich co2, good water flow, frequent water change etc), the requirement or dependency on water column fertilizer can be reduced.

This is not my contest tank, just something i do in between the contest season so that i dont keep an empty tank in the middle of my living room. It will be dismantled this week for my IAPLC 2022 project. It is going to be a fun project !

Plants:
* eleocharis parvula
* eleocharis mini
* echinodorus tenellus
* bolbitis heudelotti
* fissidens fontanus
* cryptocoryne wendtii green
* hemianthus callitrichoides "cuba"

Fish:
* Black Neon Tetra (Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi)
* Typical algae crew

Lighting:
Maxlite by Life Aqua, 7 hours.

Co2:
As much as possible, as long as fish dont die

Filter:
Eheim 2217 X 3, ADA BIORIO

Substrate:
ADA Amazonia

Water change:
2-3 times per week. 30%

Fertilizer:
None
