Description
Anubias barteri var. glabra is a beautiful and distinct variation of the classic Anubias species, easily identified by its narrow, spear-shaped leaves. Like other Anubias, it features a sturdy rhizome from which both leaves and roots emerge. The dark green foliage provides an excellent, natural contrast in the planted aquarium.
Planting and Care
This epiphytic plant is best utilized by attaching its rhizome to driftwood or rocks using thread, fishing line, or aquarium-safe cyanoacrylate glue. It must not be planted directly into fine substrate, as burying the rhizome will lead to rot. It is an incredibly undemanding plant that requires very little light and no supplemental CO2 injection, making it a staple for low-tech setups.
Aquascaping Application
With its slender, elegant leaves, Anubias barteri var. glabra adds a unique texture when mounted on hardscape in the midground of the aquarium. Its tough leaves are highly resistant to herbivorous fish, making it an excellent choice for tanks housing cichlids or goldfish.
